Chargers: reliable power for all your devices and gadgets

Electronic device chargers and power supplies

Reliable chargers form the backbone of our digital society and ensure that smartphones, tablets, and other devices are always ready to use. The coming months will bring revolutionary changes in the charging world that benefit both your wallet and the environment.

Universal USB-C standard becomes mandatory

From December 28, 2024, all new electronic devices in the Netherlands and the EU must have a USB-C connection. This historic legislation applies to smartphones, tablets, e-readers, headphones, portable speakers, navigation systems, keyboards, mice, portable game consoles, and sports watches.

Laptops will follow later and must also be equipped with USB-C from April 2026. Consumers will also have the freedom to purchase devices with or without a charger.

A clear pictogram on the packaging shows what is included. We at Nedis play an important role in this transition with our extensive range of USB-C chargers that meet all new standards.

Billions saved through universal chargers

The new legislation saves consumers 250 million euros annually. At the same time, the production of brand-specific chargers such as Apple Lightning cables will be discontinued.

This measure reduces approximately 1000 tons of electronic waste annually in the EU. The Netherlands currently has 846 million electrical devices, of which 178 million are unused and 21 million are broken.

Sustainability-focused manufacturers like Nedis contribute to the circular economy by producing high-quality chargers that can power multiple devices and last longer.

Warning about unsafe chargers

Research by Test-Aankoop and the European Commission shows that 65% of tested chargers do not meet applicable safety and environmental standards. Besides administrative shortcomings, there are serious technical problems such as insufficient insulation and overheating.

  • Cheap counterfeit chargers cause voltage fluctuations
  • Accelerated battery degradation due to incorrect voltage
  • Increased fire risk due to poor insulation
  • Missing CE marking and safety certificates

Certified brands like Nedis invest in extensive safety testing where all products have CE marking and comply with strict European standards.

Fire hazard with lithium-ion batteries

Lithium-ion batteries can react explosively and emit toxic smoke in case of fire. Danger mainly arises from overcharging, using damaged batteries, and short circuits. More information about safe battery use can be found in our comprehensive guide on batteries.

Chargers left plugged in for a long time become hot and pose a fire risk, especially on soft surfaces like beds or couches. Phone cases can obstruct heat dissipation and worsen the problem.

Our modern chargers contain advanced safety features such as overcharge protection, temperature sensors, and automatic shutoff to minimize fire hazards.

Essential safety measures

Always use original or certified chargers and avoid charging overnight. Unplug plugs after use and charge devices on hard, non-flammable surfaces.

  • Regularly check cables and plugs for damage
  • Replace damaged batteries with original parts
  • Ensure sufficient ventilation around charging points
  • Avoid charging on flammable surfaces

Safety experts recommend using quality chargers from reputable brands like Nedis, which provide comprehensive user manuals with clear safety instructions.

Fast charging technology for every device

Modern fast chargers range in power from 18W for smartphones to 240W for gaming laptops. Common wattages are 18W, 30W, 45W, and 60W, with the correct wattage depending on the device.

The harmonization of USB-C makes it possible to efficiently charge multiple devices with one powerful charger. The device itself determines how much power it draws.

Our innovative chargers offer intelligent power adjustment, automatically delivering the optimal wattage for each connected device.
